Film Name Ideas

The Cult
The demon which is after Steve is the leader of an ancient satanic cult and so this title will reflect the origin of the demon.

Within
I thought this idea was appropriate as the antagonist lives within Steve and seeks his soul.

The Demon Within
This name is developed from the idea above. I thought it may be a better idea to inform the audience of what is actually 'within' as just one word may be too vague.

Wretched
This adjective is horrible and reflects the antagonists personality.

These are the ideas which I am dwelling over for the name of my title. It is important the name reflects the narrative of the movie but also makes the audience feel uneasy as they utter the words. After testing these names with my peers and teachers I've decided that Within created the best reaction and so the name of my movie is now WITHIN.

Influences and references to Satan

The narrative of my trailer involves a demon which belongs to a satanic cult so i decided to feature a symbol which will re-appear throughout the trailer. I was inspired to use a symbol after watching movies such as 'Sinister' and 'Insidious'. Whilst researching this idea, I came across the trailer for the movie 'Dragonfly' even though this movie is not of the horror genre, the trailer is a good example of how I would like to feature my symbol into my trailer.

'Dragonfly' Trailer

Below I have researched possible symbols which can represent the cult and feature in my trailer:

I thought of two different designs which are shown below:

After looking at the possible outcomes I decided my favourite image is design idea 1. This is influenced by the 666 image posted above and the Sulphur 5 image placed on the chart. Below is a video where you can see me drawing the new symbol and explaining my reasons behind it:

Ideas For Sound

I love the use of non-diegetic sound in a trailer and so it is important to me to find the right soundtrack for my own trailer however I have to keep in mind that my trailer will be presented in a found footage format and so to keep the events realistic there cannot be a constant soundtrack. At the moment I am thinking to use a soundtrack at the beginning of the trailer to establish the mood and sub-genre and maybe at the end during the fast montage of images.

Below are some videos with soundtracks that I find extremely successful and would like to incorporate something similar into my own work.

'THE WOMAN IN BLACK'

I love the way the soundtrack is composed by the props and also how the soundtrack resembles a child’s nursery rhyme. It is so simple yet effect.

'MAKE UP TUTORIAL'

This is a video which inspired me for make-up but also for a soundtrack as running alongside the video is a melancholic melody which could be used in the beginning of my trailer to foreshadow the later sinister events.

Another option which I am considering is to have a deep, ominous tone which plays in the background. It will not over power the scene and the audience will subconsciously hear it and so will know be able to identify the tone of the trailer. This can be heard in the ‘grave encounters trailer’.
